IN THE CLASSROOM:
Art education is the first element of our mission statement. We offer year-round classes & workshops (some offsite) for all ages by qualified instructors-many with scholarships! Teachers introduce new & different ideas broadening the creative experience for accomplished & beginner artists alike.
IN THE GALLERY:
Gallery presentations are a big part of our mission to promote the best in visual art. Exhibitions also connect to our education mission as a platform to share art that’s created today. The Gallery displays change every 4-6 weeks. Our guests are delighted to find a gallery presenting such quality work by regional and Virginia artists. They demonstrate new means of expression in creativity and solid technique in technique in a wide range of mediums and styles. Other annual exhibits highlight our local artists (& student artists). Vote for your favorite piece for a “People’s Choice Award”! A curator-led tour can (generally) be arranged and scheduled in advance for visiting groups ages 6 and up.
IN THE SHOP:
Serving and partnering with artists in the Shop, we strive to encourage their growth & development. This is done by providing a marketplace for masterfully skilled juried work to be displayed & sold. Our professional venue ha arts & crafts from some of the best and most interesting creators around. You will find an inventory of 10,000+ items to take home as a gift or keepsake. It’s a challenge to see everything. Many visitors become members, and enjoy return visits with a nice discount. The Shop attracts visitors locally and from all over the world. Guests are delighted to find such high-quality work in our small friendly town. Come and browse the Shop!
We are proud of Alleghany Highlands Arts and Crafts Center, Inc. As a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, we have been an important venue presenting visual arts in the region. The standards for artistic excellence in our programming has been maintained since its founding in 1984, and proven by our notorious reputation. Come for a visit!
